SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL(SI) |
|
Soroptimist International is a voluntary service organization
of working women with an ongoing mission since its establishment
in 1921 to strive for the Human Rights and Status of Women. |

POLICY |
|
|
On matters of political controversy between nations, of party
policies and of sectarian religion, SI maintains a position
of strict neutrality. Members are obliged to attend Club meetings
to maintain their membership, as it is here where decisions
are made. |

HISTORY |
|
|
In 1921, 80 working women of diversified
classifications gathered to form a women's service organization
in Oakland, California, USA.SI of Japan Higashi Region comes
under the federation of SI of the Americas. It serves Japan's
capital, Tokyo, and eight neighboring prefectures. The first
club in Japan, SI Tokyo, was chartered in 1960. As of July 31,
2014, Japan Higashi (East) Region has now, 87 clubs with a membership
of 1,710. |

ORGANIZATION |
|
|
With a membership of some 80,000 in
130 countries Soroptimist International is the largest service
organization of classified women today. Organized from four federations:
SI/Americas, SI/Europe, SI/Great Britain and Ireland and, SI/South
West Pacific, SI/Americas has approximately half of SI's membership.
The Japanese membership is approximately 36% plus of SI/Americas'.
Japan Region was divided into five regions in 1986 for the advancement
of its organization. Japan Higashi covers nine prefectures including
Tokyo, the capital of Japan, Kanagawa, Saitama, Ibaraki, Gunma,
Tochigi, Chiba, Niigata, and Yamanashi. |
